“My name is Sofia Baskaran. Known to be an extrovert, social networking has always been one of my “go to” attributes, which has further developed my soft skills amongst having a positive mindset.
I came across the V-Force volunteering opportunity online back in February and applied immediately. My biggest motivation to join was my passion for social aspects such as volunteerism. Striving to make the world a better place, starting at a societal level further motivated me to join this platform as I have always adored a place such as the UN due to its social enactment amongst contributing to long-term sustainability.
My first ever UN programme was the “National Youth Dialogue” that took place in February 2020. The most memorable moment during volunteering was getting to know a diverse set of people and getting to work with them back to back from the beginning of the event whilst having an enjoyable time with a bunch of energetic individuals around the world.
I would highly recommend this voluntary programme to anyone striving to make an impact for a better future. As this particular programme was a conference for innovators, start-up entrepreneurs and young leaders, I together with the V-Force team were involved in coordinating the entire event along with the aid of senior UNDP members. I learned so much about expanding communication networks, teamwork and on-time output as all programmes were undertaken in a matter of minutes, where punctuality occupied a significant role. Nevertheless, the workshop undertaken prior to the main event helped us to expand our thinking patterns amidst coordinating such large events.”
