I recommend this voluntary programme to those who are looking for ways to improve society and personal development.

“My name is Elishya Perera. I am an undergraduate law student, pursuing my LLB with the University of London, and hoping to specialize in the field of human rights.

While I considered the volunteering opportunities with the United Nations, I realized that majority of the available opportunities required a long-term commitment. That is when I came across the V-Force platform where people can volunteer during their spare time, while carrying on with their career, higher education, or any other commitment. I discovered that V-Force provides individuals an opportunity to volunteer at different events and occasions organized by the various UN agencies, so I signed up online. After that, I was able to receive a notification email whenever there is a chance to volunteer.

The most memorable moment during volunteering within the V-Force platform was one of the sessions held at the National Youth Dialogue 2020, in which the panellists included a dignitary at Facebook, and certain youth participants, who were also differently abled, discussed certain critical opinions and attitudes directed towards differently abled individuals, on social media. My responsibility at the event was to assign a selected group of volunteers with relevant tasks which involved assisting youth participants. Although the event was over, what was most encouraging was that the Panellist agreed with his team to discuss the issue on Facebook and provide a good response, as well as to take time to meet the youth participants individually to discuss the matter in-depth.

I recommend this voluntary programme to those who are looking for ways to improve society and personal development.”
